The best performers of the session on the were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:), which rose 3.74% or 27.0 points to trade at 749.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:) added 3.63% or 21.0 points to end at 599.0 and Toho Co., Ltd. (T:) was up 3.52% or 135.0 points to 3975.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Trend Micro Inc. (T:), which fell 9.03% or 580.0 points to trade at 5840.0 at the close. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:) declined 6.00% or 330.0 points to end at 5170.0 and Advantest Corp. (T:) was down 4.61% or 111.0 points to 2298.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1780 to 1672 and 232 ended unchanged.
The , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.30% to 19.99.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.12% or 0.06 to $52.05 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $59.80 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.33% or 4.25 to trade at $1307.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.09% to 109.25, while EUR/JPY rose 0.09% to 125.03.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 95.340.
